Portraits
I have always been fascinated by faces and learned early on how to capture a likeness from the live model. Saturday mornings I attend a life drawing session to keep my skills fresh. The Hyter Group has been meeting for 18 years at Common Space II, in Toledo, Ohio. The group hosts a male and a female model for four two hour sessions. Named for Toledo portrait artist, Al Hyter, who passed away in 2009, this group of artists is passionate about working from life and we frequently exhibit and sponsor shows in the greater Toledo area.I have mastered a method to produce a compelling portrait quickly and this has helped immensely when I do commissioned pieces. The camera is extremely limited in its ability to interpret values and when I am presented with a photograph that needs to be turned into a full size oil painting my background in life drawing and painting really helps me add that “spark” of life we all enjoy seeing in our paintings.
A commissioned portrait will require a phone conference and one or two detailed photographs of the subject. I ask for 50% down and the balance when you are happy with the emailed proof. Shipping is additional, as are additional subjects, frames or detailed backgrounds. My portraits are backed by an unconditional money-back guarantee. Please contact me via phone or email and I will be happy to explain the procedure to you.
