Nora Sallows, Northwest Ohio Portrait & Wildlife Artist

Nora Sallows I live in Wauseon, Ohio with my husband Scott and daughter, Katie. We share our home with three rescue dogs and an assortment of cats. I have been drawing since I was six years old, but I didn’t begin to paint until 2002 after I took a painting class and audited a few semesters of life drawing at Defiance College. When I wanted to learn more I searched for artists whose work I admired and purchased books written by or about them. Artists like Daniel Greene, Harley Brown, Richard Schmid and Nicolai Fechin all shared a certain bravado that I admired. Workshops with the brilliant Judy Carducci and with David Buckley Good of the Schuler Academy helped me greatly and I will forever be in their debt for sharing their knowledge. In 2006 I began to sell my work on-line and I have sold hundreds of originals and prints and have made many new friends. The on-line venue has offered an international audience and I now have clients in Denmark, Australia, Great Britain, and Italy as well as all over the United States. Although I mostly work in oil for the ease and convenience it offers I enjoy pastels and watercolors too. I am a member of the Toledo Artists Club, The Ohio Plein Air Society and the Williams County Art Guild. I also teach oil and acrylic painting workshops and have been featured in several instructional videos for local television. Although I’m best known for my series of sports art paintings featuring the likes of Woody Hayes, Bo Schembechler and Tom Landry, I usually devote the summer months to painting the landscape en plein air.

I want to thank the many customers who have commissioned a portrait of their loved one or family pet and also to express my appreciation to everyone who has taken a few minutes to write and tell me how my art has touched their soul. It is truly heartwarming to hear your stories and to know that a piece I created has brought comfort or joy to you. My pool of collectors has continued to grown, despite a major recession, and I am grateful and very appreciative to have such loyal customers.
