I love to paint animals, but I haven't painted enough of them to be really proficient. So instead of focusing on the animal, I tend to rely more on creating a mood or depicting a story. Wildlife artists are a special breed and I admire their attention to detail.

This copy of a Jay Kemp painting took me two years to complete. When I began work on it I had no idea how to paint animals and the process really helped me work through how to paint fur realistically. The completed painting was donated to Planned Pethood for an Auction fundraiser.
